The e-mail-address on the left side is a little jpeg file and there is no 'mailto:' statement in the html source, so you cannot click on it. You have to type it by hand into your email client, sorry for any inconvenience.

Why do I do this? There are programs which search the internet 24 hours each day and store everything which looks like an e-mail address in data bases for spam mailings. Spam mail is the plague of the internet these days. I receive usually 50 or 60 mails each day. Of these 50 or 60 mails perhaps ten are related to my work and two or three are of private nature. The rest is spam. If I'm offline for one week, this adds up to about 400 mails! Therefore I want to see my e-mail address on as few pages as possible. Unfortunately my primary e-mail address is already on a lot of institute websites and each conference I attend will add it to at least one more list-of-participants webpage. Looks like there is nothing I can do about that.... I have a spam filter, but it doesn't work really reliable, the spam senders know exactly how to trick the spam filters. Sometimes I wonder if they are actually the same people, earning money with distributing spam mails and then selling spam filters to the pained internet users.

Furthermore e-mails which are not spam (and which I would like to read) will be sometimes misidentified as spam. Therefore, before I delete the spam mails, I have to look briefly at them anyway, which is exceedingly annoying.

So, if I don't know you yet, please choose a meaningful subject for your e-mail, or it is very likely I will delete your mail without even opening it. I'm sorry, but I have better things to do than looking at 50 mails each day of which 49 will offer to me the most perverse services and products. 'Hi' or 'Your Homepage' are not meaningful subject lines!  Something like e.g. 'Question about Canon 100mm Macro Lens' is meaningful. You get the point.
